The MBMI Peer Mentor is a new concept added to the overall program. Each year, 5-6 Peer Mentors are selected to assist in the successful transition of the selected incoming freshmen to the University of Missouri.  The positions are open to all rising sophomores, juniors, & seniors and past participation in MBMI is NOT a requirement to apply for this position. Peer Mentors are be responsible for the following:

  • Serve as a good role model/mentor to the incoming MBMI freshmen group
  • Meet with 3-4 MBMI freshmen participants for 60 minutes biweekly to discuss personal/transition, social and academic progress
  • Plan and implement community service events for the MBMI program
  • Plan and implement study halls throughout the semester
  • Meet with the Director of the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center biweekly to provide updates on the MBMI members
  • Stipend included
