20th Annual Black Culture Awareness Week

Your invited to join us for the 20th Annual Black Culture Awareness Week taking place November 4th – 10th. The week-long events are designed to provide students, faculty, staff and community residents of Columbia insight in Black Culture and history through a variety of mediums. All events are free and open to the public, and take place at the GOBCC unless otherwise noted. Thanks and we hope to see you out!

Join us for a soul food dinner as we kick off our 20th Annual black Culture Awareness Week.

BCAW JEOPARDY | MONDAY, NOVEMBER 5th

What do you really know about Mizzou and Black Culture? Come and test your knowledge at the GOBCC’s Black Culture Awareness Jeopardy event.

4TH ANNUAL PLAY THE PART | TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 6TH
Doors open at 6:30 PM, Showtime at 7 PM | The Missouri Theatre (203 South 9th Street Columbia, MO 65201)
Join us as your fellow students take part in a musical exhibition highlighting the careers of many African American artists and musicians throughout history. This years showcase will include performers such as: TLC, Michael Jackson, J. Cole, Tina Turner, Musiq Soulchild, Aaliyah and many more!!! Also, there will be LIVE election updates throughout the show. So you won’t miss a thing!

STATE OF THE BLACK COLLEGE STUDENT W/ DR. DARRYL SCRIVEN | WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 7TH

Join Dr. Darryl Scriven, co-founder of African American Family Enrichment Institute, for a short documentary and discussion on the “State of the Black College Student.”

FASHION THROUGH THE TIMES | THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 8TH

Join the GOBCC as we revisit the various fashions from the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and the present.

LIFE MUSIC SERIES FEATURING JENNAH BELL | FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 9TH

Join us for live music, friends and fun as we host the final LMS event of the semester featuring the unique and talented sounds Jennah Bell. Event is co-sponsored by the Legion of Black Collegians and Missouri Student Unions.

COMMUNITY SERVICE | SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 10TH
1-4 PM | The Armory Sports Complex (701 E. Ash St.)
The City of Columbia’s Parks and Recreation and the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center have teamed up to provide kids with a day of fun and laughter with greatest college students in the nation…the University of Missouri students!
